Thistles, Cogs and Caterpillar Wheels with Jenny Haynes

This is a two-day online course consisting of a three-hour group session via Zoom on both days.

Learning objectives:

In this class I will show you how to make the block I created for my Modern Times Quilt- it’s the classic New York Beauty block but with a twist.

You will learn how the different variations of the block are designed and put together, the way the different parts can be shifted and moved to change the look of the block.

We will sew no-pin machine-pieced curves in three sizes whilst playing with my Drunkard's Path Templates*, a tool that makes precise blocks that are easy to piece together.

We will also cover all the stages of Foundation Paper Piecing using Freezer Paper- how to prep the paper, what stitch length to use, how best to put the block together and more.

The techniques learnt will give you knowledge and freedom to design your own quilt of Cogs or Thistles or maybe even Caterpillar Wheels. This is a techniques class and we will not be following a pattern. Off-piste sewing is highly encouraged. 

The session is suitable for newbie quilters and extreme quilters alike.

Times:

The class will take place at 10am-1pm on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of January. Both days will consist of one and a half hour demos by me followed by solo sewing and questions by you.

October Meeting -- Economy Quilt Show!

We had a great meeting yesterday (Saturday October 23) with over 20 people attending at Quilted Threads in Henniker.  The main part of the program was to admire the ten economy block quilts that members had made to go to charity.  We voted on them based on three categories -- Best Use of Color, Best Modern Design and Best in Show.  The 10 quilts are shown below.

September Meeting -- Saturday September 11

 Our next meeting is Saturday September 11 at Quilted Threads in Henniker NH from 10 am to 2 pm. 

The Shop opens at 10am and the meeting will begin shortly after opening. Please bring your lunch.

Teams were made at the August meeting to design quilt tops using blocks from the Great New Hampshire Block Off.  If you were unable to attend in August, no worries!  Additional team members will be greatly appreciated!

August 17, 2021 Meeting and Raffle

We will be meeting again at Greeley Park in Nashua near the fountain for our meeting next Tuesday.  Trish will bring the blocks from our Pantone color squares and we will begin to consider designs for arranging them.  We will also talk about upcoming events and have Show & Tell.
